Apollo Missions Trilogy – Win The Entire Commemorative Collection!

William Shatner, or Captain James Tiberius Kirk as some of us may know him, has officially been to SPACE AND BACK. As avid fans of Star Trek, we thought that this is the ONLY trilogy of whisky bottles, suited to celebrate Captain James T. Kirk receiving his Blue Origin astronaut pin.

The Whisky Barrel, has released this three-bottle series of single cask whiskies to celebrate the Apollo space missions. Each bottle has been matured in a first fill sherry hogshead cask, and represents an event that took place on the Apollo missions. Each event is depicted on its bottle’s label, illustrated by London artist Jamie Coe.

Apollo 12 ‘SCE to AUX’ – Tomatin Distillery 10 Years Old 2011 Vintage – 271 Bottles

The Apollo 12 bottles were selected from a first fill Oloroso sherry hogshead, bottled at cask strength of 56.4% ABV. This bottle remembers when the Saturn V rocket was struck by lightning twice shortly after its lift-off. The lightning affected the telemetry measurements on the spacecraft, putting the mission in jeopardy. Engineer John Aaron in Mission Control suggested the pilot switch the Signal Conditioning Electronic to auxiliary, avoiding potential disaster.

Apollo 14 ‘Miles and Miles and Miles’ – Distilled at ‘St.Ola’ Parish Kirkwall Orkney 15 Years Old 2006 Vintage – 316 Bottles

The Apollo 14 are bottled from a first fill Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead, bottled at cask strength of 61.8%. The name and illustration are a nod to the time Commander Alan Shepard struck two golf balls while on the moon. The balls still remain there to this day. Shepard claimed his second shot went “miles and miles and miles.”

Apollo 15 ‘Get That Unusual One’ – Glenrothes Distillery 12 Years Old 2009 Vintage – 312 Bottles

These bottles were selected from a first fill Oloroso sherry hogshead cask, bottled at cask strength of 61.1%. “Get that unusual one” was said by astronaut Davis Scott to fellow astronaut James Irwin about a sample of moon rock the two were retrieving. The sample came to be known as “The Genesis Rock.”
